Handle is working with a leading Digital Media Agency to recruit a Lead PHP Developer to join and lead a team specialisng in building E-learning Platforms for Blue Chip Corporate clients.

Overview

As Lead PHP Developer you will be responsible for supporting a wide variety of projects to implement new custom features on Totara and Wordpress platforms.

You will play a lead role within a team of developers responsible for the maintenance and ongoing evolution of our LMS platforms.

You will be focus on technical solution design and development of new platform features, as well as supporting and mentoring other developers in the team.

Your responsibilities

You will initially familiarize yourself with the Totara platform and grow your own and the team's Totara expertise.

You will deliver high quality, well-structured and maintainable PHP code.

You will work with Technical Leads to ensure all technical solutions are designed to leverage the capabilities of Totara and minimize custom development.

You should be comfortable contributing architectural ideas and reviewing other engineers' code and help coach them on best practices.

What your day will look like

Estimate, design and implement new features on Totara platforms. Support the wider development team on WordPress implementations when needed.

Support developers with trouble-shooting, code reviews, Totara configuration.

You will also have opportunities to take on Tech Lead roles on appropriate projects.

Desired experience:

  • Expert PHP development skills, with desire to learn new frameworks
  • Experience of the full SDLC from planning and scoping through to development, QA and ongoing optimisation.​
  • Object-Oriented Design (OOD) to ensure scalability and maintainability
  • Experience working with Web Services and RESTful applications.
  • Expert in Git and branching strategies
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work with minimal oversight and troubleshoot issues reported by clients

Nice to have:

  • Experience of overseeing and supporting internal and external development teams.​
  • Agency experience
  • Played solution design or developer roles in delivering Moodle/Totara solutions​
  • Experience of implementing secure, scalable, performant and
    highly-available hosting on AWS for Moodle/Totara.
  • Some front end/full stack experience (javascript/html/css)
  • Experienced using and debugging custom modules
  • Experienced in reporting and analytics
