Job Description
Business Analyst - Film
Working closely with the FP&A Manager and Finance Manager but reporting into the Head of Financial Planning & Analysis, this role will act as commercial support and provide reporting, analysis and commercial input, as well as reporting back to the core finance team. The role includes management of two Assistant Business Analysts.
Key accountabilities
Forecasting and budgeting
- Prepare, through co-ordination with the commercial teams, production of annual budget, quarterly reforecasts and monthly outturns
- Analyse actual and projected performance versus plans and forecasts
- Responsible for all Revenue and Costs associated with film releases
- Input to UK Film presentation for Budget and Forecast
- Review month end journals and ledger entries posted by Assistant Business Analysts
- Present month end numbers and variances to the Finance Manager
Commercial
- Provide analysis relating to potential new business opportunities and ad hoc projects
- By title P&L's for decision making
- Assist commercial teams in the development / enhancement of tools to monitor critical variables driving underlying performance, including reporting to senior management
- Participate in departmental meetings and provide independent challenge to commercial assumptions through robust supporting analysis e.g. comparable titles, historic sales profiles and competitive titles
- Liaising with 3rd party partners for sales forecasting, monthly reporting and reconciliation
- Analysing weekly sales forecasts with the commercial team
- Review marketing budget trackers
- Analyse release strategy
- Review results compared to competitors including week 1 conversions
- Attend monthly meetings with the commercial team and track risks and opportunities for the year
Other
- Support commercial teams through explaining financial processes, policies and techniques
- Manage and develop two direct reports including appraisals and objective setting.
- Ad hoc tasks and analysis as required
Key Competencies
- ACA / ACCA / ACMA qualified (first time passes preferred) with at least 3 years experience working in a similar role
- Graduate calibre with a strong educational background
- Previous experience of system implementation / process improvement / project management experience is preferred
- Previous experience of providing analysis and support within a business is also preferred
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
- Articulate with advanced verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information in a clear and concise way to both a financial and non-financial audience
- Commercial awareness and appreciation of the core aims of the business and where it sits in terms of markets, products, customers and suppliers
