Job Description

Our client, an independent worldwide publisher, is seeking a Digital Finance Analyst to join their growing team. This role will also be partnering with the Digital Managing Director.

Your duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Monthly reporting of business unit results including preparation and follow up of variance analysis and preparation of business unit report including:

    - Posting of month end journals ensuring accuracy of nominal accounts
    - Ongoing maintenance of assets under construction and intangible assets held in respect of the Group's digital platforms
    - Income recognition, including both P&L and sales ledger reconciliations
    - Preparation of balance sheet reconciliation for the business unit, with the ability to apply judgement to questionable balances and identify/resolve issues early through clear communication with the Global Business Partner
    - Preparation and follow up of variance analysis including sales, trading and gross margin and expenses
    - Providing monthly management information and quarterly profitability analysis of the Group's digital platforms with confidence to deliver results to MDs and the FD
  • Preparation of the annual budget and quarterly reforecast for the business unit, including meeting with budget holders and offering insightful analysis to the Global Business Partner in order to assist setting and delivery of forecast;
  • Review, and employ a controls framework around, capital expenditure on digital products;
  • Primary contact for the digital project management team and our external subscription management providers;
  • Overseeing collation of quarterly digital product reviews with subsequent presentation to the business;
  • Finance lead in preparation of new digital product products P&L's, attendance at publishing meetings and providing input to viability of product;
  • Take responsibility for ensuring strong internal controls are in place across all areas of the business unit and driving process improvement;
  • Support the Global Business Partner on financial aspects for existing assignment, acquisitions, reviewing commercial contracts, profit analysis and growth plans;
  • Taking a proactive, self-starter approach to work in order to add value to the business and finance function working across our matrix structure with a view to "getting stuck in" with Group issues;
  • Preparation of ad hoc financial analysis/projects and management of ad hoc queries on Business Unit financials to improve commercial decision making;
  • Maintain and develop management reporting and KPIs;
  • Support Group Financial Controller in preparing Interim and Year-end analysis for shareholder presentations;
  • Continue to develop a "no surprises" approach to management reporting

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Newly qualified accountant/ Finalist (ACA/ACCA/CIMA)
  • Digital publishing experience desirable but not essential
  • Evidence of strong influencing and communication skills; ability to build and maintain good business relationships
  • Ability and desire to understand and improve processes
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines, responding swiftly to different demands from the business and prioritising work load
  • High standard of work with attention to detail
  • Strong data manipulation, reporting and analytical skills
  • Highly proficient in advanced excel functionality (sumifs, vlookup and pivot tables)
  • Comfortable with complexity, with ability to prioritise and focus on what is important
