Job Description

Our client, an independent worldwide publisher, is seeking a Transactional Finance Manager to join their team on a permanent basis and report into the Head of Finance.

The role will manage and oversee the day-to-day running of the UK transactional Finance Function (Assistant Accountant for UK Sales Ledger, Assistant Accountant for Sub-rights & Credit Control, Purchase Ledger Supervisor + 3 Purchase Ledger team members.)

Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Maintain a strategic roadmap for the Purchase and Sales Ledger functions, born of the Finance Teams Strategy and 5 year plan.
  • Produce regular reports on KPIs for PL and SL
  • Support and review accounts receivable and payable on complex, high value or high risk transactions, escalating and communicating issues as required
  • Manage relationship with credit insurance broker ensuring adequate cover for the UK and Australia and effective credit insurance utilisation
  • Treasury, cashbook maintenance and cashflow forecasting
  • Compile monthly VAT and quarterly MOSS returns
  • Act as a key contact with banking representatives
  • Sales Ledger and Purchase Ledger revaluations and review of BS control account reconciliations
  • Provide analysis on FX P&L movements
  • Review and resolve Sundry creditors balance
  • UK VAT and MOSS returns, monthly and quarterly collation and submission
  • Review the cashbooks and bank reconciliations
  • Review of Aged Debtors (Local Sales Ledger and Rights Debtors) with the Head of Group Finance
  • Maintain provision for bad debts, reconciling monthly to debts written off
  • Provide monthly exchange rates for the group, communicate to the business and update in Dimensions and FocalPoint
  • Review bi-weekly payment runs ensuring payment to terms
  • Cashflow weekly forecast, reporting to the Group Finance Director
  • Cashflow long term forecast, twice a year reviewed and consolidated by the Head of Group Finance
  • Liaising with Purchase Ledger Supervisor and Group Royalties Manager about the cash availability for payment runs
  • Liaising with the bank and Head of Group Finance regards funding requirements
  • Cashflow monthly analysis for UK accounts - variance analysis reviewed by the Head of Group Finance
  • Petty cash and foreign petty cash recs - order foreign cash as required
  • Review bank reconciliations monthly and ensure all cashbook transactions are processed efficiently and accurately
  • Write-off old cheques
  • Provide cover for other team members on cashbook collation and reconciliation
  • Maintain and develop relationship with UK and Australian bank managers
  • Online service administrator Citizens, Commonwealth Bank and Lloyds bank accounts
  • Maintenance of UK, US and AU bank accounts including opening and closing accounts, updating signatory mandates, etc.
  • Manage staff to ensure that a consistent and efficient finance transaction processing service is maintained, including staff recruitment, development and training
  • Provide back up for other roles in the Transaction Processing team or wider Finance team to ensure a high level of customer service can be achieved at all times
  • Champion and advocate a customer service culture in the team
  • Work with direct reports to set objectives and review performance, and advise on progress to enhance the professional development of staff
  • Responsible for resolving transactional treatments in an evolving business e.g. ensuring the correct recording in the accounts of new income streams
  • Integrate Purchase Ledger, Sales Ledger and Treasury functions for new acquisitions into existing processes and teams
  • Provide training on the functionality of Dimensions and other finance systems as requested, or when a skills gap is identified
  • Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department, ensuring team members understand and follow changes
  • Support audit, tax, and HMRC inspections
  • Ensure that high levels of internal controls are maintained within transaction processing and develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes
  • Work with Heads of Finance to ensure clean and timely interim and year-end audits and prepare schedules for interim and year-end accounts
