Job Description

Our client, an independent worldwide publisher, is seeking a Qualified Global Finance Business Partner to join their London team. Reporting into and supporting the Group Business Partner.

In this role you will be required to develop a thorough understanding of the Academic & Professional business working across four territories the Group operates across - UK, US, India and Australia.

Your duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Detailed P&L reviews contributing to UK Financial Control
  • Global management commentary
  • Timely distribution of monthly management packs and monthly meetings with key business partners
  • Manage timely management and financial reporting for A&P according to group deadlines;
  • Business support for the A&P division and liaison with its senior management with ad hoc analysis requests, including preparation of business cases for external pitches, business/list valuations, due diligence documentation;
  • Oversee preparation of reporting schedules for interim and year-end audit and accounts;
  • Providing training and leading sessions with the digital product and project management team on financial issues;
  • Global lead in preparation of bottom-up budgeting for division, and on-going reforecasting;
  • Preparation of global five year plan for division to feed into Group plan;
  • Supporting department heads within the business in developing granular five year plans and regular tracking;
  • Maintain and develop management reporting and KPIs;
  • Support Group Financial Controller in preparing interim and year-end analysis for shareholder presentations;
  • Continue to develop a "no surprises" approach to management reporting;
  • Taking a proactive, self-starter approach to work in order to add value to the business and finance function working across our matrix structure with a view to "getting stuck in" with Group issues;
  • Line management of up to two direct reports;
  • Support the business partner group on financial aspects for existing assignments, bids, proposals, pricing and reviewing commercial contracts as appropriate;
  • Preparing and reviewing profitability analysis;
  • Preparation of ad hoc financial analysis/projects and management of ad hoc queries to improve commercial decision making;

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • 1st or 2:1 degree
  • Qualified accountant (ACA/CIMA or equivalent), c.2 years PQE
  • Demonstrated thorough understanding and knowledge of financial operations and international accounting principles and practices
  • Evidence of strong influencing and communication skills; ability to build and maintain good business relationships
  • Ability and desire to understand and improve processes
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines, responding swiftly to different demands from the business and prioritising work load
  • High standard of work with attention to detail
  • Strong data manipulation, reporting and analytical skills
  • Highly proficient in advanced excel functionality (sumifs, vlookup and pivot tables)
  • Comfortable with complexity, with ability to prioritise and focus on what is important
