Job Description

Wea re working with a global media company to recruit a Senior Java Developer to work on a the design and devlopment of a tool to aggregate various sources of data, make it searchable, provide APIs, and create tools to help non-technical users.


  • Deploy infrastructure like Linux VMs, NoSQL DBs, ElasticSearch, etc
  • Integrate into a handful of internal and external systems
  • Write code in Java for APIs and tools
  • Help with the creation of user interfaces
  • Set up deployment scripts, tests, monitoring, logging, and other systems
  • Work closely with the software architect, acting as the main/sole developer

Key Skills/Experience

  • Experience working across the full software stack
  • Experience in developing production-grade software (e.g., write tests without being prompted, thinks about redundancy, consider user needs when making technical trade-offs)
  • An appreciation for software simplicity and minimal moving parts
  • Expert knowledge of Java solidly, with extensive programming and Java experience, with proficient knowledge of Maven, Jenkins and Nexus
  • Strong knowledge of Linux and its environment, with confident in installing and configuring a MongoDB cluster or setting up iptables
  • Experience using MongoDB or other NoSQL databases in at least a couple of projects
  • Experience using Git and cloud environments like Azure or AWS in at least one project
  • Knowledge of designing a simple but functional user interface would be advantageous
  • Experience with parallel processing, especially Apache Storm would be advantageous
  • Experience with ElasticSearch would be advantageous
  • Experience designing APIs, bonus points for Jersey and Spring Boot
  • Knowledge of a dynamic language like Python or PHP would be advantageous
