One of London's leading arts institutions is looking for an experienced Systems Administrator with exposure to Windows, Linux and network technologies to play a key role in the administration and ongoing development of their IT infrastructure.
With a first-class reputation and a forward thinking approach, this is a company that is going from strength to strength and as a result there is an increasing demand on the ever-busy IT department. This is an opportunity to take ownership of the server and network infrastructure, keeping it running on a day to day basis while looking to continually improve and evolve it in line with the needs of the business.
The core focus of this role will be to maintain, administer and continually improve the IT infrastructure, while also helping out with escalations from the IT support team. It will be a diverse role in terms of the technologies you will be working with, but the main three groups will be Windows and Linux servers, Cisco networking equipment and security systems. You will be dealing with a wide range of technical challenges, so we are looking for a good all-rounder here, rather than someone who specialises in a particular technology. The IT infrastructure is critical to the success of the company, and in turn this role will be critical to the smooth running of the IT systems.
In addition to your proven technical ability, you will also need exceptional communication skills, and the ability to take ownership of tasks and manage them through to a conclusion. You will need to take responsibility for independently thinking through projects and systems, and implementing them without the need for direction. You will have the opportunity to contribute to key technical decisions, and will need to be able to multi-task effectively and prioritise your workload.
To be considered for this role you must have a proven track record of experience in a Systems Administrator role or similar, ideally in an arts / culture / media environment. In addition you must be able to clearly demonstrate your experience with the following;
- Windows and Linux servers and services (installation, configuration, administration, maintenance).
- Cisco networking equipment (layer 2 and 3 switches, firewalls and wireless LAN controller).
- Security and anti-virus technologies.
- Network monitoring, backups, and configuration management.
- Ideally, exposure to software development using PHP / LAMP.
You will also need a confident and natural communication style, first class problem solving and troubleshooting skills, the ability to build effective working relationships, and the confidence to take ownership of projects.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a successful, forward thinking company and play a crucial role in the management and maintenance of their IT infrastructure. If this sounds like something you would be interested in, please contact Will Fraser at Handle Recruitment for more information.
