Handle Recruitment are thrilled to be partnering with the leading with one of the world's leading illustrated non-fiction publishers to source a Brand Manager.

The role is responsible for brand management and title marketing of certain lifestyle divisions of this publisher. By working with the Global Brand and Comms Director you will continually analyse and align audience data to develop and build robust brand strategies across all new and backlist titles. The overall aim is to drive a brand that becomes instantly recognisable, consistently innovative and exciting for new and existing audiences.

The role works hand-in-hand with the wider Brand Manager network, PR and social teams to ensure all campaigns are aligned and fully integrated, ensuring the brand takes a consumer first approach to discoverability.

Key responsibilities will include:

STRATEGY

  • To formulate strategies that identify and target existing fan bases and new audiences, and work with wider Brand and Comms team to create and share evolving brand opportunities and innovative campaigns
  • Use data and research to better understand and identify these audience growth opportunities and disseminate to members of the wider team
  • Develop an email & social strategy that aligns with our brand and audience development; to grow our communities and drive book sales using data to understand and improve our performance
  • To grow strategic thinking across the brands finding opportunities to work with partners and increase brand noise and sphere of influence
  • To work on strategy with the Head of Marketing, but also other Leaders and brand consultants where appropriate, and review competitor activity and changing market needs

CAMPAIGNS, MARKETING ACTIVITY AND AMAZON

  • To plan, implement or direct creative, consumer focused marketing projects, strategies and campaigns, in accordance with our audience development, social, email and retail strategies, particularly with a focus on driving Amazon sales
  • To attend regular meetings about Amazon, work closely with the Amazon Working Groups across the company, and disseminate relevant information to colleagues
  • To use data and consumer insights to plan, measure and evaluate marketing activity that links to Amazon, with an eye to innovation, creativity and targeting the right audiences
  • To generate ideas and creative planning; and consider all forms of marketing communications where applicable
  • To take responsibility for assigned projects, tasks, campaigns, events and promotions: working to deadlines, ensuring all materials are delivered on time - including but not limited to catalogues, POS, proofs and advertising creatives
  • Keep an eye on industry trends, best practices, innovation and developments in the email, publishing and other industries, particularly regarding email personalisation, audience segmentation and automation
  • Generate ideas through creative planning; approaching partners and influencers and planning activity for email campaigns that feature our books, authors, brands and partners

BUDGET MANAGEMENT

  • To work with and plan budgets for audience development, campaign strategies/activity as agreed, alongside the Head of Marketing - with an eye to objectives and ROI
  • To assist with budget planning where required, on a yearly basis, with quarterly re-forecasts

REPORTING

  • Develop a measurement and reporting framework for the Brand activity, alongside our social media and paid media reporting, with support from our Data and Insights team, to measure and communicate our brand performance to key stakeholders
  • Develop new ways of getting consumer feedback, and reviews

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Excellent people management skills
  • Excellent copywriting skills
  • Proven experience regarding audience development
  • In depth understanding of the book trade, publishing, media, book market, marketing and publicity industries
  • Good strategic thinking capability
  • Ability to grasp complex, challenging ideas and present them with key selling points
  • Ability to work with figures and budgets
  • Strong oral communication skills one to one and in front of a larger audience
  • Potential to develop leadership qualities; to lead meetings and people
  • Mature, proven decision making abilities
  • Self-motivated and working to own agenda and time-frame
  • Track record of eye-catching marketing campaigns
  • Experience of managing people and dealing with authors/agents/designer and suppliers
  • Ability to manage projects from start to finish, within budget and on time
  • Customer focused and responsive, internally and externally
  • Ability to work flexibly, covering evening and weekend events where necessary
