Sophie, who is currently studying towards an MA in Public Relations at the University of Greenwich, beat some stiff competition to be Handle’s guest at the 2012 PRWeek Awards.
We had a fantastic response to our social media-led competition, and were incredibly impressed by the four shortlisted candidates, whom we invited in to pitch for their place. However, Sophie really stood out with her obvious passion for PR, knowledge of current campaigns and clear focus on what she wanted to achieve, if given the opportunity to attend.
Tonight will be the first time Handle PR attends the PRWeek Awards and we’re looking forward to not only increasing the industry’s awareness of our growing division, but also introducing our winner Sophie to influential professionals in the business. It’s been an incredible year for us and we look forward to celebrating with those who have contributed to this success, whilst also trying to give something back.
We decided to launch the competition as we get so many talented, driven graduates contacting us, but we don’t often have entry level vacancies to put them forward for. This was a rare opportunity for us to be able to help somebody get a foot in the door in an industry where work experience is key, and that all important first role frequently seems out of reach.
Sophie, who has a passion for social marketing, is hoping to work with a charity client or an innovative agency when she graduates next year. She is thrilled to be joining us this evening:
“I’d like to thank Kelly and Jessica for offering me this fantastic opportunity. It’s so encouraging to see that somebody has recognised my potential and I’m really looking forward to networking this evening. I think this competition highlights what is possible using the power of social media – by simply following a company I admire, I have been given the chance to attend these prestigious awards. Thanks Handle!”
We’ll keep you posted on our winner’s progress!
