Have you read the latest UK Music Ltd annual report?
What does it mean for jobs, hiring, and talent? David Johnston shares his thoughts!
"The ‘This is Music 2021’ report is a stark reminder of just how challenging 2020 was for the music industry. The most revealing stats include how the UK music industry employed 128,000 people in 2020, down 35% from 197,000 in 2019 – with live music industry revenues falling by 90% during the same period. These are incredibly difficult numbers to read.
"So what happens next? As we reflect back over the last few months we have seen a huge increase in job opportunities within live music, labels, publishing and tech platforms and alongside the recommended actions in this report I believe that the future of the UK music industry is incredibly exciting.
"I’m proud to have supported the music industry for almost 20 years and to be part of Handle that has been supporting the music industry for over 40 years! Now is the perfect opportunity to support the rebuilding process and help the industry return to the year-on-year employment growth it saw pre-pandemic."
