Celebrating Creativity... β
For the month of June, the Barbican Centre has launched Rebel Radio - an exhibition and event series exploring the impact of pirate radio on the UKβs creative and cultural landscape.
Featuring archive material, live broadcasts, film screenings, and discussions, the series traces how stations like Rinse FM, Kool FM, and Radio Jackie gave rise to entire genres - from jungle and garage to grime - and offered vital platforms for underrepresented voices.
The programme also features a Rebel Radio club night hosted by Rinse FM at the Barbican on June 13th, uniting influential DJs and artists from across the scene to celebrate the lasting legacy of pirate radio in shaping UK nightlife and music culture.
At its core, the programme is a reminder of how creative innovation often starts outside the mainstream - and how those early DIY spaces helped build todayβs industry.

About Handle Recruitment
We opened the doors in 1978 and built our reputation in the music industry. We quickly realised that a great brand is not always a household name. A great brand is something people connect with, not just a place they work. Somewhere that helps them become better at what they do. It could be a record label, it could be in media, it could be a tech start-up.
