Commercial Accountant

The role is suited to a bright, committed and passionate individual who is looking for a varied commercial finance role and shows high levels of initiative and numeracy. As a key member of the finance team you'll need to be able to solve problems proactively and have the capacity to multitask and project manage effectively. You should also be comfortable with data cleansing and manipulating large sets of data in excel. Ideally you'll also have a good working knowledge of Salesforce and Periscope though training for these will be provided.
My client is a commercial agency therefore it is essential you are interested in championing client profitability, utilisation rates and ensuring high-quality data feeds into these areas. This role will provide excellent development opportunities to focus on key areas of the business and will add financial and commercial stripes to any aspiring financial professional.
I am looking for someone who is used to forming relationships within the business and explaining numbers to non-finance employees. The ideal candidate will also be able to demonstrate that they can partner with the Finance manager and FD on resolving the following business critical issues:

  • Moving from spreadsheet-based revenue forecasting to system-based forecasting using salesforce and Periscope and ensuring actuals reconcile to our accounting system (Dynamics AX)- NB technical aspects will be handled primarily by our Business Architect specialists

  • Building and implementing robust systems around revenue reporting and revenue tracking.

Experience building revenue dashboards is highly desirable there

  • Establishing project margin reporting, utilisation reporting and reporting on over-delivery. You will be required to pull and drill into the data, be curious about understanding the data and be able to propose actions to business managers on the back of this data

  • Providing live data to the business on fees and expenses tracking, helping the business to resolve any queries related to these

  • Establishing time and cost reporting and getting it embedded within the business

  • Maintaining payroll forecast, working closely with the HR team and supporting with the financial aspects of bi-annual pay reviews

  • Establishing robust project and Opex budgeting and tracking



This person will also need to be willing to roll up their sleeves and dive into project creation and quote submissions where needed in order to ensure system data they're reporting on is accurate and up to date. As is the case with the rest of the team, this person will need to be flexible with the work assigned to them as needs will fluctuate over the coming months during this significant period of change for the finance team.

Other Tasks:

There are a number of other tasks which will also fall within this role which are part and parcel of working in a small finance team some of which are regular and some of which are ad hoc in nature. This will include assisting with month end and ad hoc reporting as well as data cleansing as required.

Skills required

  • Experience working with Salesforce, Power BI, Dynamics AX and/or Periscope is distinctly advantageous
  • You are a proactive, problem solver.
  • You are constantly hungry to learn and grow and have plenty of energy and enthusiasm.
  • You are highly numerical with excellent excel skills.
  • You have some experience working in a finance function carrying out key accounting tasks including ledger review.
  • You have good organizational skills: ability to multi-task.
  • You have good communication skills with staff at all levels.
  • Holding an accountancy qualification such as CIMA or ACCA is an advantage.
  • We will also consider those who are part qualified but hold relevant experience.
  • Experience working within Finance or a professional services business or agency would be an advantage
  • You are a team player with the ability to work within a small and dynamic team as well as the ability to handle tasks autonomously where required.
  • You have good time management and project management skills and are able to work to deadlines.
