This position sits at the intersection of Finance and Editorial teams, ensuring the smooth management of cash advances and expenses for staff deployed at short notice to cover global news stories.

The role acts as a central point of contact for cash management between international teams and offices, providing oversight of story spend and ensuring accurate financial reporting to senior stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Liaise with the finance operations team to resolve discrepancies and queries related to expense transfers, using SAP or equivalent finance systems
  • Reconcile international cashflows (e.g. regional offices) where local financial resource is unavailable
  • Produce a weekly commissioning report, updating story spend for designated editorial areas and providing high-level summaries for stakeholders
  • Work closely with Editorial teams and internal systems to track which staff members worked on specific stories, including dates and locations
  • Direct staff and freelancer expense queries to the appropriate finance helpdesk via internal gateways
  • At the end of assignments, provide recommendations and observations to the Finance team to help improve systems and workflows

Essential:

  • Previous experience in a finance coordination, finance operations, or accounts role
  • Strong understanding of expense management, cash handling, and reconciliations
  • Experience working with finance systems such as SAP (or similar ERP systems)
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities under time pressure
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to liaise confidently across finance and non-finance teams
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, reactive environments where priorities can change quickly

Desirable:

  • Experience working in media, broadcasting, news, or international organisations
  • Exposure to supporting overseas teams or international financial operations
  • Experience producing management reports or spend tracking summaries
