This week we’re celebrating the Open City Documentary Festival, taking place across London from 14th-19th April 2026.
 
One of the UK’s leading non-fiction cinema festivals, Open City brings together screenings, talks, workshops and exhibitions across venues including the Barbican Centre, Bertha DocHouse, British Film Institute (BFI), Close-Up Film Centre, Institute of Contemporary Arts and Rich Mix.
 
Over six days, you can explore a diverse programme of international documentaries, artist films, expanded realities and filmmaker conversations, all presenting bold approaches to storytelling and the ways documentary connects us to the world.
 
Some events are ticketed, but there are a number of free screenings, talks, workshops and the Expanded Realities exhibition, including student-focused sessions.
 
The festival is a platform for inventive storytelling, amplifies diverse voices, and invites fresh perspectives on what documentary can be today.
