This April, the Barbican Centre turns back the clock with '1996: 30 years on, The Wildest Year of Britain’s Wildest Decade', spotlighting a defining moment in UK cultural history.
Blending music, film and storytelling, the exhibition looks back at a year that reshaped Britain’s creative identity. It explores everything from Britpop and club culture to film, football, fashion and art, capturing the energy, attitude and creative spirit of a generation.
Featuring iconic Spice Girls costumes, unseen Oasis memorabilia, and photography from Jill Furmanovsky and Derek Ridgers, it reflects the scale and influence of the era’s creative output.
More than a retrospective, it’s a reminder of how culture evolves, connects communities, and continues to shape today’s creative industries.

About Handle Recruitment
We opened the doors in 1978 and built our reputation in the music industry. We quickly realised that a great brand is not always a household name. A great brand is something people connect with, not just a place they work. Somewhere that helps them become better at what they do. It could be a record label, it could be in media, it could be a tech start-up.
