CV & Cover Letter Workshop at BIMM University: Preparing Students for the Creative Industries

Another Great Session at BIMM 🎶

Last week the Handle team visited the BIMM University London campus to run a CV and cover letter workshop for final-year students preparing to begin their careers in the music and creative industries.

Starting a career after graduating can feel exciting but also competitive. Many talented graduates have strong ideas, creative portfolios and project experience, but translating that into a CV or cover letter that resonates with employers is often the hardest part.

Our goal for the session was to help students understand how recruiters and hiring managers actually review applications and what makes a candidate stand out when applying for music industry jobs and creative roles.

David Johnston, Hannah Keighley, and Adam Wade shared practical insights from their experience recruiting across record labels, music companies, events businesses and creative organisations. The session focused on helping students turn their creativity, projects and real-world experience into clear, compelling applications.

We dived into key topics, including:

• What do hiring managers really want?
• Exploring how AI can support - and challenge - your job applications
• Building resilience in a tough market
